Spain Day One (17Aug)
Day One (17Aug)
We departed from the Hong Kong Airport and spent about half an hour in the Moscow Transit area. The queues were crowded and there happened a bit harsh. We went into the plane eventually heading to Madrid and relaxed inside the plane and with the enthusiasm of getting into Madrid Barajas Airport Terminal 4. I spent about three hours in the plane to learn Spanish.
When we got off the plane and proceeded to the luggage belt, I found ten passengers including me were not able to see the luggage on the belt. After waiting for over twenty minutes, the luggage did not come out. We began to aware that the luggage was not going into Madrid with us. Indeed I had the “bad” feelings that the passengers rushed into the plane but the luggage would be far more difficult to be transited into the plane as more handlings were made by the airport crew.
We went into (Please check the details with the club traveler at http://www.yuwie.com/signup.asp?r=132333, INFO0003) and expressed our concerns to the counter staff. It was almost 00:00, the closing time of the service counter. In the first contact with the staff there, I expressed that I need her help to locate the address of the Hostal in the first night in Madrid since the address information was locked up in the luggage. All I know is the name of the Hostal, which is near Plaza Mayor and I even could not pronounce it properly in Spanish. After a few minutes’ struggle with the counter staff, another staff became softened and helped us to find and write the hostal address for us (Please check the details with the club traveler at http://www.yuwie.com/signup.asp?r=132333, INFO0004). He gave me the slip of the delayed luggage and asked me to call for the situation in the next morning. We are relieved and then we moved to the metro station and proceeded to buy a ten-trip ticket plus 2 Euro Airport surcharge. The security guard standing besides the ticketing machines showed me how to purchase the 10 Viajes Metrobus ticket and he told me that one ticket could be used for two of us. I thought the price details was unimportant here because the price had been inflated even we brought in the latest version guide book. The Consumer Price Index would inflate soon. I found this system is convenient and easy to count the number of journeys required in using the Metrobus Service. We went into the metro and looked around the map posted on the wall. Sitting opposite to me were three Spanish girls, they were not extremely beautiful but the outlooks were very healthy. The talked all along the trip and I had the impression that Spanish people are very keen to talk. About forty five minutes later, we got off the metro.
We did not know where to get on a taxi and we tried to walk towards the direction of the hostal and sought for a taxi with our luggage dragging along the streets of Madrid. About half an hour later, we reached Plaza Mayor. The hostal must be near but however, we spent another 30 minutes and we failed in locating the hostal.
We were exhausted and we jumped into a taxi and showed the driver the hostal name and address wrote by the counter staff before. The taxi driver switched on his navigator (GPS) and entered the address details of the destination. I felt a great comfort at this time because I thought that we would be arrived the resting place soon. The driver drove off and the taxi ran along the streets of Madrid. Because I felt interesting with his navigator, I peered at the navigator screen and I found that he did not follow the navigator’s direction at all and he drove far apart from the resting place. I estimated that the taxi should take no more than one minute to get there as we’d been so closed to the hostal. I could not see properly the street names in the darkness. I started to feel annoying and I told the driver that he did not drive as according to his navigator. He knew that his dishonest was exposed. He then drove and stopped into a small street in a minute. He took out his atlas and was more seriously. He then drove off and reached the hostal in another minute. I watched the meter’s price. It showed about 7 Euros, I only paid him 5 instead because he wasted us so much time. We went into the Hostal and woke up the reception desk man for check-in. It passed 1:15 a.m. in the morning. We took the shower and went to sleep quickly as I was very exhausted after the traveling.

Preparation 準備
Information Gathering: We bought some guide books and magazines plus borrowings from the libraries in English as well as in Chinese. The Internet is a good source of information definitely.
Schedule Planning: As I was teaching in a campus of Training Council and taking summer vacation in August 2007. She needed to secure the vacation holiday with the boss two months before the trip. She started the planning in May 2007 and arranged the travel insurance as well. The outline of the itinerary schedule began to evolve in early June.
Book Flight: We checked for a number of options via various agents and adopted Russia's International Airline for the reasonable price and the first time experience with Former Russian Airline Company. The flight time between Hong Kong and Moscow was about eleven hours while that between Moscow and Madrid was about five hours.
Book Accommodation: Most of accommodation arrangements were booked well before the start off of the trip except the last fours which allowed more flexibility of the journey and maintain the consistency to the schedule in the major parts of the trip.
Book Car: I searched around the Internet and various agents and eventually adopt EuroCar Company for the car rental for eight days. It is a small Volkswagen Polo with Manual Transmission. However, when I picked up the car, I learnt that all the manuals were written in German. Therefore, I only touched those items and buttons which I used before in the other vehicles. I renewed my International Driving License two weeks before the trip as well.
Book other tickets:
- Bull fight tickets from TEYCI´s office, ...(Please check the details with the club traveler at http://www.yuwie.com/signup.asp?r=132333, INFO0001)
- Flamenco Show tickets ...(Please check the details with the club traveler at http://www.yuwie.com/signup.asp?r=132333, INFO0002)

Since the memory of the last trip in August 2007 was most imminent, I started to write more for the trip. We spent always two weeks in Spain and the flight transits were in Moscow Airport. I spent more time in swimming and cycling in order to bring up my physical conditions in the evenings and weekends. I packed my wet suit, fins and a pair of walkie talkies (手提式步话机) just in case needed.

We were in Segovia
I met Kitty when I was graduated from a Business School in the United Kingdom and joined the company where I met her. Later on, we were married and we always travel together around. She likes planning the trip and I like taking the wheel when needed and I am responsible for safety of the traveling. Therefore, we always have different opinions in bringing the stuff into our baggage. She always took away the items from the baggage which I consider useful and helpful during the journey. On the contrary, I always complain to her that excessive amount of clothing was put into the baggage but she always argued that the essence of changing clean clothes and she will handle the clothing and cleaning matters.
In fact, we always carry excessive clothing every time.
About Me
In the past years' experience in traveling to various countries, I am always thinking of my life. How shall I spend my life and how will I end up my life. One of the friends I met during traveling is a Greek boy of about 35 years old at that time in loose white shirt and white pant when we talked. Through the conversion, I found that he had been traveled for a long time and his spirit and attitude towards life enlightened me. What’s the value of living and why we live by asking me a question “How will you like to die?” I scrapped my head at the moment and spent a few minutes to think of his question and I have got no clear idea of a solid answer. I can tell what I expect after my earth life, but I did not know how to answer the simple and important question if I have an option of the way of dying. About five minutes later, he was too eager to tell me his thinking; he would choose to sit under a coconut tree and end by a falling coconut.
